Peskov: “The upcoming negotiations on Karabakh will be complicated”

“The purpose of the meeting in St. Petersburg is an insurance against resumption of hostilities in Karabakh”

The main objective of the upcoming talks between the presidents of Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan is to insure against the resumption of hostilities in Karabakh, Press Secretary for the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov told journalists on Monday.

“The main challenge now is to insure against the resumption of hostilities, in order to prevent the loss of groundwork that existed at the time of the resumption of violence in Karabakh,” – said Peskov, according to RIA Novosti.

According to him the upcoming negotiations will be complicated.

He also explained that on Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin will hold a meeting in St. Petersburg with Presidents of Armenian Serzh Sargsyan and Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.

“The President will hold separate meetings: first with Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, then – a private meeting with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. It will be followed by a working breakfast with all three presidents, that is, Putin, Aliyev and Sargsyan”, – said Peskov.
