Wife reports husband to police for illicit drugs in Sharjah

Police are searching for a Gulf national accused of drug possession and issuing death threats against his wife who reported the drugs to authorities, said a senior police officer.

The woman, in her 40s, also a GCC national, told police she was shocked to find illicit drugs in her home and reported the issue to police on Tuesday as she feared for her children aged beween 15 to 17.

An anti-narcotics team raided the home and seized an unspecified amount of illegal substances, the police said.

His wife, meanwhile, alleged that the suspect phoned her and threatened to kill her and her children.

The panicked woman then phoned the police once again and reported the alleged death threats. The woman and her two children were taken to a shelter for safety.

Data shows the anti-narcotics department at Sharjah Police dealt with 307 drug-related cases from January 2014 till October 2015, which resulted in the arrests of 1,086 suspects.

The department seized a total of 250 kilograms of drugs, including hashish, heroin, opium and narcotic pills, including Tramadol.
