Powerful quake hits Turkey and Greece, 2 killed so far – Video


Two people were killed in the Greek Island of Kos while hundreds are reported to be injured so far after a 6.3-magnitude quake hit near Turkey and Greece.

The mayor of Kos Giorgos Kyritsis has confirmed that the deaths, adding that more than 120 people on Kos are believed to be injured.

Some have been airlifted to the larger nearby island of Rhodes for treatment.

In Turkey, there were no reports of casualties or property damages, however, according to Turkish media sources, most people living near the epicenter of the quake in the Aegean Sea have spent the night outside of their dwellings.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS), which monitors earthquakes, said that the strong quake was very shallow – only 10 kilometers below the seabed – and located off the southwestern coastal city of Marmaris in the Mugla province of Turkey.

The epicenter was just 10 kilometers south of the Turkish resort of Bodrum and 16 kilometers east-northeast of Kos, which has been the area worst hit.
